POLICIES FOR VOLUNTEER SERVICES
These policies are intended to support the safety and well-being of HomeHaven members and volunteers.
For further information or clarification, please contact the Executive Director.

SCHEDULING

All volunteer services should be scheduled through the HomeHaven Office via Kate Hay, who will then log the service into HH’s database.

  1. Members should call the HH Office to request help.
  2. Members are advised not to phone a Volunteer directly asking for visits or help.
  3. Kate Hay will contact the list of Volunteers.
  4. An available Volunteer will contact the member to schedule the service.

LIABILITY

If a volunteer service is not documented in our database and some harm to person or property, or some alleged or perceived harm occurs, HH's insurance will not cover the incident. The insurance company will claim that it was not an HH activity -- it was a private arrangement between two people -- and therefore it will not be covered by HH insurance.

  1. If Volunteers perform a service and do not notify Kate, they are taking liability upon themselves. HH’s insurance will not step in if something happens.
  2. This applies to all Visitors, IT and Household Helpers, and Drivers.

NOTE: Carpooling is not a Volunteer service. It is not covered by HH’s insurance. It is a private arrangement. Your personal insurance covers any damage or injury.

PHYSICAL CONTACT & ADLS

Volunteers are not permitted to have physical contact or to help with medical devices (such as hearing aids) or any form of personal care, known as ADLs (Activities of Daily Living) -- these include bathing/grooming, dressing, toileting, feeding, or transferring between chair, bed, wheelchair, walker, vehicle.

  1. Members should not request, nor should the volunteer agree to give such assistance.
  2. NOTE: There are significant liability issues involved.
